ABOUT BARUM REELS
Paul Ravenor grew up and learnt his trade as a precision machinist in Barnstaple, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1988. Throughout his working life, he has always worked for companies that were involved with work that required attention to detail and fine tolerances. In 2005 he decided to purchase a lathe and milling machine. He carried out contract machining and tool making work under the company name of Barum Machining. It was about the same time he revived his love of fishing. Only this time, not the beach fishing he was accustomed to off the shores of North Devon, but fly fishing and centre pinning the waters of British Columbia.
Bitten by the bug, Paul decided to focus on building his own centre pin reel. He started by using the knowledge and experience he gained from building high speed balanced spindle cartridges used in lens cutting machines. Then, by talking to accomplished centrepin users and using his own ideas, it led to him using his machines to build the basic design prototype. Eventually the prototype was built and put into the hands of others to use and after carrying out numerous design revisions the first Alouette centre pin reel was finally completed. Paul is now proud to offer both the Alouette and the Skeena, precision hand built centre pin reels for sale to serious fishermen everywhere.
